The City of Reno’s initiative to address homelessness is gaining momentum, with the Pathways pilot program proving successful in helping individuals like Bonnie Pace transition from life on the streets to stable housing. The program, run in partnership with the Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality (RISE), has already helped six people find housing since its launch in July 2023. The program focuses on providing peer-to-peer services and support to individuals formerly living outdoors, breaking down barriers to accessing assistance. Pace, who spent 11 years homeless, credits the program with turning her life around and providing essential support for her and her beloved cats. RISE Field Specialist Robert Downs emphasizes the importance of teamwork in helping people like Pace succeed and highlights the city’s commitment to offering comprehensive support to end homelessness.
