The Nevada men’s basketball team’s quest for a Mountain West Tournament championship came to an end in the quarterfinals with a 67-59 loss to Colorado State. Despite a strong performance against Fresno State in the first round, Nevada couldn’t overcome the Rams and their star guard Nique Clifford, who led all scorers with 25 points. The Wolf Pack struggled with their shooting, connecting on only 5 of 26 three-point attempts. Coach Steve Alford praised his team’s effort and resilience, especially in the face of injuries that left them with just eight available players.
Nevada finishes the season with a 17-16 record, including an 0-11 record against the Mountain West’s top-five teams. While Alford was noncommittal about whether the team would participate in a post-season tournament, such as the NIT or College Basketball Crown, he acknowledged the challenges his team faced throughout the season. With a roster hampered by injuries, the Wolf Pack fought hard but ultimately fell short in their pursuit of a NCAA Tournament bid.
Despite the disappointment of an early exit from the Mountain West Tournament, Alford expressed pride in his team’s effort and resilience. Nevada fans will have to wait and see if the Wolf Pack’s season will continue in a post-season tournament, but one thing is clear – this team never gave up, even in the face of adversity.
