Nevada Launches Semiconductor Manufacturing with Nanofabrication Lab Opening
On April 18, over 200 attendees celebrated the opening of the University of Nevada, Reno’s Nanofabrication Lab, marking a pivotal moment in Nevada’s semiconductor manufacturing journey. Welcoming remarks came from key figures including Sen. Jacky Rosen and President Brian Sandoval, emphasizing the lab’s role in providing hands-on training and fostering economic growth in microelectronics and biomedical engineering.
Located within the state-of-the-art Davidson Foundation Cleanroom, the Nanofabrication Lab is equipped with advanced tools for creating electronic, photonic, and quantum devices, making it Nevada’s cornerstone investment in the semiconductor supply chain. Director Russ Renzas highlighted the importance of community collaboration in harnessing the lab’s potential to benefit all Nevadans.
The initiative aims to diversify Nevada’s manufacturing landscape, positioning the state as a national leader in future industries, all bolstered by the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act. GOED officials underscored the lab’s contribution to boosting the regional and national supply chains.
Stanford’s Mary Tang, drawing parallels to nurturing a child, emphasized the necessity of ongoing investment in the lab to sustain its growth and innovation. The event encapsulated a hopeful future for Nevada’s economy centered around cutting-edge technology and workforce development.
