Krysta Palmer, a former Nevada Wolf Pack diver and Olympic medalist, has been named the school’s new diving coach, succeeding Jian Li You. Palmer, who competed under You from 2012 to 2016, has served as You’s assistant coach in recent years. You, who announced her retirement after 29 seasons with the Wolf Pack, leaves behind a storied coaching career. Nevada athletic director Stephanie Rempe expressed excitement about Palmer taking over the program, citing her experience at the collegiate and international levels. Palmer, a Carson City native and Douglas High alum, was a two-time MW diver of the year and All-American honorable mention during her time as a student-athlete, winning multiple conference medals. She also represented the U.S. at the 2021 Tokyo Games, earning a bronze medal.
In a statement, Palmer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the program that she loves. She praised You for preparing her for the coaching role. Palmer inherits a talented diving roster, including standout athlete Bailey Heydra, who earned medals in all three events at this year’s MW Championships. Head coach Brendon Bray, who recently signed a contract extension, expressed excitement about having Palmer on board as the new diving coach. The Wolf Pack swimming and diving program is optimistic about the future under Palmer’s leadership. The transition marks a continuation of the program’s legacy, with one Wolf Pack great passing the torch to another.
