Cortez Masto Proposes Two Bills Aimed at Broadening Tax Cuts and Credits in Nevada

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto has introduced two pieces of legislation aimed at cutting taxes for Nevadans. The Tax Cut for Workers Act, co-introduced with Sen. Michael Bennet, will triple the Earned Income Tax Credit and expand eligibility to workers under 25 and those over 64. This expansion is expected to benefit over 136,000 Nevadans, including young part-time workers. Additionally, Cortez Masto introduced the American Families Act, which seeks to permanently expand the Child Tax Credit to provide more financial support for families with children.

During a press conference, Cortez Masto emphasized the importance of putting money back in the pockets of middle-class workers to support themselves and their families. The Democratic senator highlighted that both bills have support from Democrats in the House and Senate, and she is reaching out to Republican colleagues for bipartisan discussions on the legislation in the Senate Finance Committee.

The aim of these bills is to ensure that all Americans have the resources they need to care for their children. Cortez Masto’s efforts to cut taxes for Nevadans could have a significant impact on families and individuals in the state.
