The status of bills in the Nevada legislature in 2025

Several high-profile bills are currently being discussed in the Nevada legislature, with a few key updates on their progress. Assembly Bill 81, introduced by Assemblywoman Selena La Rue Hatch, aims to end daylight saving time in the state and has bipartisan support. Assembly Joint Resolution No. 5, which would allow for a state lottery in Nevada, failed to advance due to economic uncertainty and opposition from the casino industry. Another bill, AB 161, focused on oversight of hospice care programs, has advanced out of committee and requires programs to accept Medicare payments and provide annual reports on their services. AB 116, addressing ghost kitchens, also advanced and requires food delivery platforms to ensure kitchens have necessary permits and licenses. Finally, AB 268, which would provide free school lunches to all students in Nevada, is still under consideration after a similar bill was vetoed two years ago. These bills are part of a larger discussion in the Nevada legislature on important issues affecting the state’s residents.
