Former Indiana basketball star and current Nevada coach Steve Alford has added another Hoosier to his staff by hiring Kyle Guy, the 2016 IndyStar Mr. Basketball. Guy, who helped Virginia win the 2019 national championship, retired from playing professionally last summer and joined Tony Bennett’s staff as an Athlete Development Mentor/Special Assistant before Bennett resigned in October. Guy had the option to stay with the new coach at UVA but chose to join Alford at Nevada. Alford, who has a 112-73 record with the Wolf Pack and two NCAA tournament appearances, praised Guy’s championship experience and basketball IQ in a news release. Alford has a history of hiring Indiana natives to his staff, with last year’s staff including Craig Neal and Bil Duany, both Indiana All-Stars. Along with coaching, Guy also runs the Dizzy Runs Pro-Am, bringing together former Indianapolis-area standouts for summer basketball. Alford continues to draw talent from his Indiana roots even as he coaches all the way out in Reno.
