Gov. Joe Lombardo faced backlash after leaked audio from a Republican dinner in Carson City revealed his sharp criticism towards anti-Trump protesters and those who speak against him on social media. In the audio, Lombardo can be heard using an expletive to dismiss critics.
During his speech at the Nevada Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner on April 5, Lombardo referred to recent “Hands Off!” protests as “stupid” and claimed that protesters were paid by the Democratic Party. He mocked the protesters’ message and accused the party of promoting government handouts instead of encouraging people to work.
Lombardo’s remarks received laughter and applause from the audience at the event. However, his office declined to comment on the leaked audio. In response, a spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party called Lombardo’s claims a “desperate and pathetic lie” and emphasized that Nevadans are genuinely upset about the current state of affairs in the state.
Critics have accused Lombardo of insulting his constituents instead of addressing their concerns about issues such as high unemployment and slow job growth in Nevada. The leaked audio has sparked controversy and raised questions about the governor’s stance on dissent and public protests.
