The Ukrainian government is seeking clarification from Beijing after capturing two Chinese nationals fighting with Russian forces in eastern Donetsk. President Zelenskyy accused the Kremlin of trying to involve China in the conflict and stated that there are many more Chinese members of the Russian armed forces fighting in Ukraine. The US State Department called the situation “disturbing”, highlighting China’s role in supporting Russia in the war.
Meanwhile, Russian forces launched drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, causing injuries and fires in Dnipro and Kharkiv. In Kramatorsk, a residential area was also attacked, injuring residents. In response, Russia claimed to be regaining control of the Kursk region, releasing a video showing the recapture of a settlement.
The US Senate confirmed Elbridge Colby as its top policy adviser at the Pentagon, despite concerns over his past comments downplaying threats from Russia and Vladimir Putin. Colby had previously questioned whether Russia had invaded Ukraine, but later acknowledged the invasion.
In an effort to restore embassy operations that have been scaled back due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, US and Russian delegates are set to hold talks in Istanbul. The international community continues to monitor the situation in Ukraine closely as the conflict persists.
