Nevada County experienced unexpected rain on Monday, following sunny skies on Sunday. Grass Valley and Nevada City received nearly an inch of precipitation, with temperatures expected to warm up over the week. The National Weather Service reported that the recent storm system passed quickly, leaving the area dry for the next week. Despite above-normal temperatures in late March, snowpack conditions in the northern Sierra were at 118 percent of normal as of April 1. Southern areas of the region received lower precipitation levels, ranging from 50-90 percent of normal. The Climate Prediction Center’s seasonal drought outlook indicates that drought conditions are not expected to return to northern California in the near future. Overall, the area is expected to see a dry and warming trend in the coming days, with temperatures in the mid 60s to low 70s expected throughout the week.
