Spanish Springs High alum Jace Avina, a New York Yankees farmhand, is set to have his own bobblehead night on May 17 for the Hudson Valley Renegades. Avina made headlines last season with an over-the-fence catch, and now fans can commemorate that moment with his bobblehead. The outfielder had a strong season last year, hitting .245 with 10 homers and 24 doubles in 92 games. Avina will start this season in High-A.
The Nevada softball team faces a tough matchup against Cal, while the baseball team takes on rival UNLV. The softball team is looking to add a quality non-league victory to their NCAA Tournament at-large resume, while the baseball team aims to maintain their position atop the Mountain West standings.
