Over 7,000 people gathered outside the Nevada State Capitol and Legislature for a protest as part of a nationwide movement called “Hands Off”. The protest aimed to show opposition to lawmakers and the Trump Administration. Local organizations in Northern Nevada helped organize the event over a two-week period. Protesters came together for various reasons, including advocating for social security, healthcare programs, and immigrants’ rights. Some protesters expressed concerns about violations of due process and constitutional rights for immigrants. Others participated in the protest to support friends and family members who may be impacted by policy changes. Despite some opposition, with cars driving by honking or waving signs, there was no formal counter protest. Protesters believe that future protests will continue in Carson City. The event saw a diverse range of individuals coming together to voice their concerns and stand up for their beliefs.
