Authorities in Nye County, Nevada, recently seized seven tigers from a home in Pahrump and arrested the owner, Karl Mitchell, for resisting an officer. The tigers were taken as Mitchell did not have the proper permits to have them. The owner reportedly made threatening remarks to deputies and then struggled with a deputy during the seizure. Sheriff Joe McGill stated that the intention was to seize the tigers for public safety and the safety of the cats.
Mitchell claimed that the tigers were his emotional support animals and had them for seven years, even alleging that he got some from Joe Exotic from Netflix’s Tiger King. However, Joe Exotic denied this claim. The tigers have been taken to a sanctuary out-of-state while the investigation continues. This incident highlights the importance of proper permits and animal welfare in owning exotic animals. The Nye County Sheriff’s Office, FOX 5 Vegas, KTNV, and Joe Exotic’s X page provided information for this report.
