Nevada Completes Sweeps Washington State with 9-4 Victory
On Sunday, Nevada completed a three-game sweep of Washington State with a 9-4 victory at Don Weir Field. This win puts the Wolf Pack in an early tie atop the Mountain West standings with New Mexico at 6-3. Sean Yamaguchi hit a two-run homer and broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in Nevada’s four-run sixth inning. Jacob Doyle hit a three-run homer in that same frame, sealing the victory for the Wolf Pack.
Logan Saloman provided clutch relief pitching, striking out Ricco Longo with a runner on third in the sixth inning. Junhyuk Kwon also made a brilliant defensive play by diving to snag a ball up the middle, preserving the tie. In the bottom of the sixth, Nevada capitalized on a Washington State error and scored four runs to take control of the game.
Yamaguchi had a standout game, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer. Kwon also contributed with a solo homer in the third inning. Despite allowing three runs over 5.1 innings, Wolf Pack starter Casey Burfield took a no-decision.
The Wolf Pack will face UC Davis on Wednesday at Don Weir Field. The game was rescheduled due to expected inclement weather over Donner Pass. Nevada Athletics contributed to this report.
