New gun control bills introduced by Democratic lawmakers in Nevada legislature

Democratic lawmakers in Nevada have introduced three new gun control bills in the 2025 state legislature. The bills, Assembly Bill 105, Assembly Bill 245, and Senate Bill 89, aim to address firearm regulations in the state. Assembly Bill 105 seeks to prohibit firearms within 100 feet of election site entrances, while Assembly Bill 245 aims to prevent individuals under 21 from purchasing certain weapons. Senate Bill 89 proposes tightening gun restrictions for individuals convicted of hate crimes or crimes based on race, color, religion, or sexual orientation.

While the bills have garnered support, there are concerns from some community members and groups, including the Nevada Firearms Coalition Political Action Committee, about potential infringement on constitutional rights. The bills mirror similar proposals passed by Democrats in the 2023 session, which were vetoed by Governor Joe Lombardo.

If the bills pass the joint session, they will be sent to Governor Lombardo’s desk for approval or veto. For more information, contact reporter Anthony Ramos at aramos@sbgtv.com.
