Democratic legislators propose updated gun control legislation in Nevada’s state legislature

Democratic lawmakers in Nevada have introduced three new gun control bills in the state legislature for 2025. The bills, known as Assembly Bill 105, Assembly Bill 245, and Senate Bill 89, aim to address various issues related to firearm regulations in the state. Assembly Bill 105, introduced by Assemblymember Sandra Jauregui, seeks to prohibit firearms within 100 feet of election site entrances. Assembly Bill 245, also introduced by Jauregui, aims to prevent individuals under 21 from purchasing certain types of firearms. Senate Bill 89, introduced by State Senator Julie Pazina, proposes tighter gun restrictions for individuals convicted of hate crimes or crimes against someone’s race, color, religion, or sexual orientation.

These bills are in response to recent shootings and hate crimes in the state, with lawmakers emphasizing the need for change to protect communities. While the bills have received support, there are also concerns from some groups about potential infringement upon constitutional rights. If the bills pass the joint session, they will ultimately be sent to Governor Joe Lombardo for approval or veto. For more information, contact reporter Anthony Ramos at aramos@sbgtv.com.
