Nevada Democrats continuing push for inaugural committee transparency bill following 2023 veto

Gov. Joe Lombardo made it clear that he will only sign legislation that protects school choice and expands opportunity. Democratic lawmakers are not deterred by his strong stance, as they push forward with bills that address issues like high teacher vacancy rates. Sen. Melanie Scheible is expected to introduce a bill that increases stock reporting requirements for public officials and brings back an effort to increase financial transparency of inaugural committees.

Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager has introduced a new bill, AB398, to address teacher vacancy rates and provide funding to continue extra pay incentives for teachers in Nevada school districts. This bill follows previous efforts to improve teacher pay across the state and increase teacher recruitment and retention.

Meanwhile, other bills are making progress in the Legislature, including AB123, which seeks to address death threats against political candidates, and SB305, which aims to sanction lacrosse as a sport in Nevada’s public high schools.

Overall, the legislative session is in full swing, with various bills being introduced and heard in committees. Lawmakers are working to address key issues in the state and make progress on important policy matters.
