Neon lights are making a comeback in Carson City, Nevada, as the Cultural Commission discusses a potential neon light program in the capital city. Members are exploring how neon can enhance the art scene and are considering ways to display neon art in public spaces, such as the Brewery Arts Center. Commissioner Samuel Flakus expressed the importance of highlighting Nevada’s association with neon, suggesting that the state capital should be a part of that cultural legacy. The commission also voted to retain Bethany Drysdale as chair and appointed Flakus as vice-chair. Anna Freeman, arts and culture supervisor for the city, presented an annual report and work plan, highlighting 2024 as a big year for public art in Carson City. Freeman also mentioned the need for volunteers and sponsors for ongoing programs in maintaining the city’s public art collection, organizing an art volunteer day on May 31.
