Selection of the top Mountain West men’s basketball players and all-league picks

In a historic move, the media will participate in the official All-Mountain West men’s basketball selections after a decade. Chris Murray, a voter for this year’s awards, submitted his full ballot to the league. Voters only considered conference play for the honors, excluding non-league games.

Donovan Dent of New Mexico was voted as Player of the Year for his exceptional performance, leading the Lobos to their first regular-season title since 2013. Nique Clifford from Colorado State was chosen as Defensive Player of the Year for his versatile defensive skills. Nick Boyd of San Diego State was recognized as Newcomer of the Year, while Justin McBride from Nevada was awarded Sixth Man of the Year. Magoon Gwath from San Diego State was named Freshman of the Year for his impactful debut season.

Richard Pitino from New Mexico was awarded Coach of the Year for his leadership in securing the regular-season title. The All-Mountain West teams were also announced, with players like Tyson Degenhart from Boise State and Ian Martinez from Utah State making the first team.

Chris Murray provides further sports insights in Northern Nevada and can be contacted at crmurray@sbgtv.com or followed on Twitter at @ByChrisMurray. This marks a significant step in involving the media in the official selections, recognizing outstanding performances in the Mountain West Conference.
