In a recent media interview, Lori Vallow Daybell showed no remorse for the murder of her children and was positive about acting as her own attorney in her upcoming trial over the fatal shooting of her estranged husband. During the interview, Lori claimed to have been falsely accused and convicted in the murders of her children and her estranged husband’s previous wife. Lori’s husband, Chad Daybell, was also convicted in these murders and the couple believes they will be exonerated, claiming Jesus showed them the future and they were not incarcerated. Chad was sentenced to death and Lori received multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors described the case as driven by money, sex, and power, with religious issues being tangential. Investigators suspect Lori’s now-deceased brother, Alex Cox, was responsible for the murders and he also admitted to killing Lori’s estranged husband. Chad self-published end times-themed novels and claimed to have near-death experiences that allowed him to see the past and future. Lori met Chad at a religious conference and described their meeting as spiritual in nature.
The children’s remains were found on Chad’s property after they vanished in 2019. Chad and Lori married shortly after Chad’s previous wife, Tammy, was found dead, with Tammy’s death initially attributed to natural causes. Lori is now set to stand trial in her estranged husband’s killing after previously being convicted in the deaths of her children and Tammy. Lori has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her and will act as her own attorney in the upcoming trial.
