Nevada Sports Net is celebrating Women’s History Month by honoring influential female coaches, athletes, and administrators in Northern Nevada. Today’s featured coach is Victoria Hayward, the head coach of the Nevada softball team. Hayward, a former All-American and Olympic medalist, is leading the Wolf Pack with an all-female staff, a first in the program’s history.
Since taking over as head coach, Hayward has led the team to a strong start this season with a 16-4 record and a 36th ranking in the RPI. She believes that being a female coach for female athletes is empowering and important for providing role models for student-athletes. Despite balancing a professional playing career with coaching, Hayward is determined to give her all to both pursuits.
Hayward’s impressive resume includes representing Team Canada at the Olympics, playing in the Women’s College World Series, and coaching at various Division I programs. She hopes to see more women in coaching roles at all levels of sports to provide balance and empowerment for female athletes.
