Assemblyman Thaddeus “Toby” Yurek from southern Nevada is set to introduce Assembly Bill 162, which aims to establish a public database for individuals with multiple domestic violence convictions. The bill will be presented in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Friday morning.
The proposed bill mandates the creation of a statewide database for individuals with two or more domestic violence convictions, with a website providing public access to this information at no charge. The database will allow users to search for individuals while ensuring confidential information remains protected.
The bill outlines a process for individuals to petition for the removal of their information from the database and website. It also requires the Department of Public Safety to provide information on the website about the petition process and contact details for organizations offering services to domestic violence victims.
The bill grants immunity to the department and law enforcement agencies from criminal or civil liability related to the database and website. It also prohibits the use of information from the database for purposes related to insurance, loans, credit, employment, education, housing, or business services, with violators facing civil action from those harmed by such misuse.
