A criminal investigation is underway in Nevada regarding a failed fiber optic project with $9 million missing, but state lawmakers are hesitant to launch an inquiry. Senator Ira Hansen has criticized the Attorney General’s Office for their role in the project, stating that someone in the office “dropped the ball.” The Attorney General, Aaron Ford, responded by saying Hansen is “uninformed” and declined further comment due to ongoing litigation.
Governor Joe Lombardo, who approved the contract, has not responded to inquiries about the missing funds. Hansen, representing Pershing County, is calling for a legislative investigation into the issue. Senator Melanie Scheible acknowledged the missing funds but expressed caution, stating more information is needed before conducting an inquiry.
The Attorney General’s Office is tight-lipped about the criminal investigation, which began after the owner of Uprise, the company involved in the project, resigned from his family’s investment business. Despite the lack of accountability from state officials, Hansen remains the only voice in Carson City demanding answers.
