In partnership with the AAUW Capital Branch and League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, the Sierra Nevada Forums will be hosting a panel discussion on “Civil Discourse, Engagement, and the Dignity Index Tool” on Wednesday, March 12 at the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater in Carson City. The event, which marks the 10th season of free community forums, will feature panelists such as Amy Pason, Jill Tolles, and Pat Hickey who will discuss the Dignity Index, a tool designed to promote more civil conversations and reduce polarization by evaluating language on a scale from contemptuous to respectful.
The panelists will also explore the implications of using contempt language in policy making, drawing from their experiences as former state legislators to call for more dialogue and understanding across the aisle. By encouraging thoughtful engagement, the Dignity Index aims to help individuals and leaders communicate in ways that foster cooperation and cooperation.
The audience will have the opportunity to submit written questions, and a future forum is planned for May 13, 2025. The Sierra Nevada Forums provide factual information for well-informed decision-making, the AAUW Capital Branch works to advance gender equity, and the League of Women Voters supports public involvement in promoting informed voting and participation.
