Board updates: Trustees praise work-based learning program

Seven students from Churchill County High School choir have earned a spot in the 2025 American Choral Directors Association All-State Choir. In a recent school board meeting, the work-based learning program update was discussed, recognizing the program’s success in increasing the number of students enrolling at the University of Nevada, Reno. The program offers various opportunities such as internships, job shadows, apprenticeships, and industry tours. Students Travis Fulbright, Maddie Keller, and Nadia Basurto shared their positive experiences with the program.

The meeting also recognized two students as 2025 3A Division state wrestling champions. Numa Elementary School student council members requested support for their playground project, seeking a grassy area, artificial grass for safety, and a shade structure. The board approved a modified 4-day calendar for the next two years based on Superintendent Derild Parsons’ recommendations, with a request to increase instructional minutes. Meetings are livestreamed and available for replay on the district’s YouTube channel. The next meeting is scheduled for March 26.
