U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen has invited Las Vegas teenager Dominic Rampa and his mother to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress. Dominic relies on Medicaid to cover treatments for nine genetic disorders which would cost over $200,000 annually without the program. Senator Rosen has been critical of Republican budget plans that propose cuts to Medicaid, arguing that it would harm Nevadans who depend on the program.
Governor Joe Lombardo has also expressed strong opposition to potential Medicaid cuts, warning of the severe impact on nearly 800,000 Nevadans. Congressional Republicans have eyed $880 billion in cuts to health care spending, including Medicaid, despite President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson insisting they won’t cut entitlement benefits. State Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro has called on local congressional leaders to halt the proposed cuts, noting Nevada’s vulnerability as the third hardest-hit state in the country.
President Trump’s address will be aired on News 4 on March 3 at 6 p.m.
