Israel has been carrying out a series of air strikes in Syria since the removal of former President Bashar al-Assad last December. The latest strikes targeted a military site near the city of Tartous, where weapons belonging to the previous Syrian regime were stored. While no human losses were reported, Syrian state media confirmed the strikes and stated that civil defense teams were working to confirm the exact location of the targets.
The Israeli army has been conducting hundreds of air strikes on Syrian military assets to prevent them from falling into the hands of hostile groups. Just last week, Israeli forces carried out air strikes in southern Syria, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s call for demilitarization of the area. Israel has also violated the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria by moving forces into a United Nations-monitored demilitarized zone and taking control of areas outside of the buffer zone, including Mount Hermon.
At a national dialogue conference in Syria, participants denounced Israel’s aggression and violations of Syrian territory. They rejected Netanyahu’s statements and called on the international community to pressure Israel to stop its aggressive actions. The conference also opposed Israel’s attempts to stoke sectarian tensions and expressed support for Syria’s minority Druze community. Israel’s ongoing military actions in Syria continue to be a source of tension in the region.
