Top tennis players Badosa and Tsitsipas have expressed their interest in participating in the US Open mixed doubles competition. The USTA recently announced changes to the format, with matches played to four games instead of six and the field consisting of 16 teams with eight wild cards. Reigning champions Errani and Vavassori have slammed these changes, while players like Taylor Fritz, Jessica Pegula, Katie Boulter, Alex de Minaur, and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka have shown interest in participating.
Sabalenka, in particular, has expressed excitement about the event, saying she always enjoys playing doubles and that it gives her good energy and helps her perform well in tournaments. However, rising star Coco Gauff will not be competing, citing concerns about how the changes in the event’s scheduling could affect her main-draw preparations.
The US Open mixed doubles competition will take place during the tournament’s Fan Week rather than the second week, creating a shorter two-day event that promises to be full of fun and excitement for players and fans alike. While some players have reservations about the changes, others like Sabalenka are looking forward to participating and enjoying the unique format of the competition.
