Nevada Legislature makes a renewed push to outlaw fraudulent electors

Nevada lawmakers are revisiting a bill aimed at penalizing individuals who sign fake Electoral College certificates, following a veto by Republican Governor Joe Lombardo in 2023. State Senator Skip Daly introduced a new bill that addresses concerns raised during the previous legislative session. The bill, heard by the Senate Legislative Operations and Elections Committee, aims to make signing fake electoral certificates a category D felony, punishable by one to four years in state prison and a fine of up to $5,000. The legislation also includes provisions to prohibit submitting election documents with false signatures. The bill is seen as a response to a group of Nevada Republicans who signed fake Electoral College certificates in 2020, despite the legitimate election results that declared Joe Biden the winner. Progressive groups support the bill, while conservative groups oppose it. The bill now faces a committee vote and has until April 11 to pass. Daly remains hopeful that Governor Lombardo will accept the changes and sign the bill into law to ensure law and order in Nevada. The issue of fake electors has drawn attention in the wake of the 2020 presidential election and efforts to ensure the integrity of the electoral process in the state.
