Positron raises $23.5 million in funding for AI innovation

Former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s 2011 prediction about technology becoming the cornerstone of the state’s economy has proven true with Reno-based AI hardware manufacturing startup, Positron, securing $23.5 million in funding. Founded in 2023, Positron’s semiconductors are fabricated in the US, reducing reliance on Nvidia’s AI hardware made in Taiwan. The company’s primary product, the Atlas appliance server, has already been shipped and assembly functions are moving to Northern Nevada.

Positron’s CEO, Mitesh Agrawal, hopes to establish a semiconductor fabrication facility in Nevada in the future to support the growing AI ecosystem. With AI becoming more embedded in society, Agrawal believes the company is well-positioned for growth. Providing energy and cost-efficient products, Positron aims to overcome inertia in technology adoption, ensuring they can meet the computational needs of their clients.

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada is working with Positron to find suitable office and manufacturing space in Nevada. CEO of EDAWN, Taylor Adams, believes Positron’s success is a testament to Northern Nevada’s growing reputation as a global business destination.
