Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado is set to host World Cup ski races over Thanksgiving weekend, marking the first time both men and women will compete at the same venue at the same time in more than two decades. The resort, known as “the Athlete’s Mountain,” has a history of hosting international events and is considered the ideal venue for showcasing high-level alpine racing.
This will be the fourth time Copper Mountain has hosted World Cup races, with the last time being in 2001. The resort’s top training facilities and proven track record have attracted national and international pros for preseason training, making it a natural fit for the Stifel Copper Cup event. The races will feature men’s super-G and giant slalom, as well as women’s giant slalom and slalom.
Top alpine racer Mikaela Shiffrin, who has roots in Killington, Vermont, where the World Cup is expected to return in 2026, expressed excitement about the races being so close to her Colorado home. Although she will miss racing at Killington this Thanksgiving due to a lift replacement, Shiffrin is looking forward to competing in front of her community at Copper Mountain.
The races at Copper Mountain will serve as a prelude to the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy, and are expected to draw ski racing fans from around the world. The event offers a unique opportunity for fans to witness world-class racing in a stunning mountain setting.
