Hundreds of people gathered outside the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City for the ‘50501 Movement’, a nationwide protest against President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies. The movement, which started online, aimed to have 50 protests in 50 states on one day. Protesters voiced their opposition to the Trump administration’s recent policies and Project 2025.
One protester, Irene Mendoza, passionately led chants against the administration’s deportations, citing personal experiences of discrimination and danger. The protest started with a small group and eventually grew to both sides of South Carson Street, with protesters waving signs denouncing Elon Musk and chanting “Deport Musk.”
Despite the lawmakers conducting business inside the capitol building, there was no presence of any legislators at the rally. Captain Powrie from Fernley called on local and state elected officials to stand up for minorities and protect their voices.
