The School Most Likely to Join the Pac-12 Conference in Football

Nevada Sports Net columnist Chris Murray shared his thoughts on the Pac-12’s search for a ninth football school. After adding five Mountain West schools and Gonzaga, the conference is still one team shy of FBS eligibility. Potential candidates include Memphis, Tulane, UNLV, Texas State, UTSA, Sacramento State, UConn, and sleeper MW schools like Nevada or Hawaii. Murray believes Texas State might be the best option, considering its location and market proximity. While New Mexico State is unlikely, Murray finds it humorous to imagine the Pac-12 accepting the school as its final member. The Pac-12 has until July 1, 2026, to add another member, but a decision is expected before then. The league is focused on finalizing media deals before making a move, but Murray predicts the ninth school will be added before June 30. While the decision is still uncertain, he believes the new school will come from the list of potential candidates.
