Nevada Sports Net is honoring influential African-American coaches, athletes, and administrators from Northern Nevada each Friday in February for Black History Month. This week, they are featuring Lauren Green, a former Nevada track and field standout who is now a host and sideline reporter for the NBA’s Utah Jazz. Green’s journey from track athlete to NBA sideline reporter began when she was a journalism student at the University of Nevada, where she always dreamed of covering basketball. This year, that dream became a reality when she was hired by the Utah Jazz broadcast team as a sideline reporter.
Green, who graduated from Nevada with a bachelor’s in journalism and later obtained a master’s degree in sports journalism from Arizona State, has been working alongside seasoned professionals in the NBA broadcasting world. She describes her experience with Craig Bolerjack and Thurl Bailey as seamless and supportive, with many opportunities for growth and learning. Green, who previously worked as a news and sports anchor and reporter in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and as a track and field analyst for the Mountain West Network, has found her passion in covering sports.
As Black History Month is being celebrated, Green hopes to inspire future generations, particularly young women, to pursue their dreams in male-dominated fields. She emphasizes the importance of hard work, dedication, and continuously striving towards goals, regardless of any obstacles faced. Green’s journey from a standout track athlete to a respected NBA sideline reporter is a testament to her perseverance and determination to succeed in a highly competitive industry.
