Federal judge orders lift of funding freeze on $156M community solar for Nevada, other program funds remain on pause
In a significant development, a federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to lift a funding freeze affecting climate-related programs under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and Inflation Reduction Act. This has allowed the Nevada Clean Energy Fund to regain access to $156 million in Solar for All award funds. However, other funds, including $7.7 million for the Clean School Bus Program and $20 million for the Walker River Paiute Tribe’s community solar project, remain frozen.
The Nevada Clean Energy Fund CEO expressed gratitude for the advocacy of Nevada officials in securing these critical resources. The EPA, whose funds have been frozen since January, has not fully released all obligated funds despite the court order. Nevada and other states are challenging the legality of the funding freeze, with the Nevada Attorney General joining a coalition of attorneys general in seeking to enforce the order. The motion warns of potential cash shortfalls in states impacting basic programs if federal funding is not released.
