Demonstrators rally at Nevada State Capitol Building in opposition to Trump presidency | Nevada | News

Hundreds of protesters, including members of the Indigenous Yaqui tribe, gathered outside the Nevada Capitol Building in Carson City to protest against the Trump administration’s recent actions. The protesters spoke out against the administration’s deportation policies and its removal of workers from the U.S. Agency for International Development. Signs reading “Make Orwell fiction again” and “Protect the Constitution” were held as chants of “fight for your rights” filled the air.

One protester expressed concerns about Elon Musk, a billionaire tech owner who has joined the Trump administration, having too much power with no consequences. Another protester, an 84-year-old Gardnerville resident, highlighted the cruel treatment of transgender individuals and the deportation programs under Trump. Many expressed the need for pushback against the negative actions coming from the White House.

In response to the protests, Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald defended Trump’s policies, stating that they were no surprise as he ran on them during his campaign. McDonald emphasized that Trump is putting America first and is following through on his promises to the American people. Despite the pushback from protesters, the chairman believes that Trump’s actions are in line with what he was elected to do.

The protest in Carson City was part of a larger nationwide rebuke against the Trump administration, with similar protests taking place in Las Vegas as well. For more information, contact Jessica Hill at jehill@reviewjournal.com or follow @jess_hillyeah on X.
