Reno 11-year-old Evan Sanchez interviews Super Bowl stars at media day while grilling them


11-year-old Evan Sanchez, a fifth grader from Jesse Beck Elementary School, won the Panini’s Kid Reporter competition for this year’s Super Bowl. Along with his father, former Nevada Wolf Pack player Ray Sanchez, Evan traveled to New Orleans to interview players from the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, mentored by Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer.

During his time in New Orleans, Evan had the opportunity to interview star players such as Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Chris Jones, AJ Brown, and Andy Reid. This once-in-a-lifetime experience came after Evan was selected from over 290,000 entrants in the national competition. His winning essay detailed how he overcame challenges, including his small stature, in pursuit of his dreams.

Evan, a Los Angeles Rams fan who participates in multiple sports and enjoys fishing and camping, impressed the judges with his mock video interviews while wearing team jerseys. His father, Ray, is an assistant football coach at Bishop Manogue and is a member of the Carson High Football Hall of Fame.

Panini America posted some of Evan’s interviews online, showcasing his talent and enthusiasm for sports journalism. The Sanchez family will also attend the Pro Football Hall of Fame announcements during their time in New Orleans. Evan’s dedication to his passions and opportunities like this competition are sure to shape his future in sports media.
