Melody Homan of the Dominican Republic is opening The Melo Plant Shop in Nevada City. Homan’s love for plants led her to start the shop two years ago from her home and has now expanded to a retail space. The shop offers a variety of unique plants, pots, and planting services. Customers can create their personalized plants at a Build-Your-Own planting bar. Homan also encourages customers to name their plants, adding personality and attachment. The shop’s eclectic and colorful vibe reflects Homan’s Caribbean roots and personality. As a teacher at Nevada Union High School, Homan finds tending to plants therapeutic and wants her shop to provide tranquility to visitors.
