A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area and Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties from 2 PM this afternoon to 4 PM PST Friday. Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected, with wind-prone areas possibly experiencing gusts as high as 65 mph. Gusty winds could lead to unsecured objects being blown around, tree limbs falling, and a few power outages. High-profile vehicles may also experience difficult driving conditions, particularly on Highway 395, Interstate 580, and Highway 95. Additionally, winds may knock down burned trees in the Davis Fire burn area.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, such as patio furniture and trash cans, and prepare for potential power outages by having extra food, water, flashlights, and candles on hand. It is recommended to take precautions ahead of time to minimize the impact of the strong winds.
