Excitement builds as Jeff Choate prepares for Nevada quarterback competition following Brendon Lewis’ departure to Memphis

Nevada football has a big void to fill at the quarterback position following the departure of Brendon Lewis, who transferred to Memphis after earning all-conference honorable mention last season. However, head coach Jeff Choate remains confident in the team’s quarterback options for the upcoming season.

Chubba Purdy, A.J. Bianco, and Anthony Grigsby Jr. are three players competing for the starting role. Purdy, who started one game last season, decided to stay with Nevada for his fifth college season after initially entering the transfer portal. Now healthy, Purdy is considered a frontrunner for the starting job.

The quarterback battle is expected to intensify during spring camp, with Purdy, Bianco, Grigsby, and newcomer Carter Jones all vying for the position. Choate emphasized the open competition and highlighted Purdy’s athleticism and potential as a key factor in his favor.

Additionally, the team will be adjusting to a new offensive coordinator, David Gilbertson, who was promoted after the departure of Matt Lubick. Gilbertson, the son of former head coach Keith Gilbertson, has impressed Choate with his work ethic and readiness for the role.

Nevada fans can look forward to an exciting quarterback competition and a fresh offensive scheme under Gilbertson’s leadership as the team prepares for the 2025 season.
