Oliva criticizes lifestyle check

Former Mandaue City treasurer Regal Oliva has spoken out against the ongoing lifestyle check being conducted on her, alleging that it is being used as a tool for political harassment. Oliva, who is running for a congressional seat under Team Mandaue, led by dismissed mayor Jonas Cortes, claims that the investigation against her is not rooted in concerns about financial integrity but is rather a political maneuver to discredit her and others in her political camp.

During a press conference, Oliva revealed that after she filed her candidacy, other government offices in Cebu were also subjected to similar probes, including the treasurer’s and assessor’s offices in Liloan, Cebu City, and Mandaue City. She suspects that the Department of Finance may have pushed forward her lifestyle check.

Oliva believes that these lifestyle checks are being weaponized against political figures who are seen as threats by the opposing camp, leading to harassment and persecution through legal cases. Despite these challenges, she remains committed to her candidacy and vows not to be deterred by what she calls political persecution.

She also questioned the timing and scope of these investigations, suggesting that they are part of a coordinated effort to pressure certain officials affiliated with or supportive of her political camp. SunStar attempted to obtain more information about the lifestyle check but was unsuccessful.
