Trace Williams Donato, a Brit who fell in love with Southern cuisine, has made her mark in Indianola, Mississippi as the owner of Ella & Bee Bakery. Originally from Yorkshire, England, Donato’s journey to the Southern US also led her to meet and marry her Argentine husband.
Having worked for celebrities in California, Donato found her passion for Southern cuisine after befriending chefs from Mississippi. After years of visiting the Delta, she made the move to Mississippi and now considers Nola, a local restaurant, to be the best in the Delta.
With over thirty-five years of experience as a caterer and private chef, Donato has cooked for a wide range of celebrities and dignitaries. She credits her childhood in an Italian restaurant family and her Southern mothers-in-law for shaping her culinary skills.
Named after her mothers-in-law, Ella & Bee Bakery specializes in Southern and Argentine-inspired treats made with love and without preservatives. One of their specialties, king cakes made with grandma Ella’s recipe, has been a hit during Mardi Gras season.
Donato’s dedication to preserving old family recipes and creating new delights has garnered the support of the local community. As she looks forward to the future, Donato is excited about the possibilities for Ella & Bee Bakery in the years to come.
