Nevada’s 83rd legislative session kicked off in Carson City with the swearing-in of all 63 lawmakers by the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court. The session, which will last for 120 days, began with ceremonial activities and the approval of a bill to fund the session. Although little policy was discussed on the first day, budget hearings are scheduled to start later in the week.
Both Democrats and Republicans used the opening day to outline their priorities for the session. One area where bipartisan agreement is expected is a bill aimed at reducing the cost of eggs. The Assembly Speaker announced plans to fast-track this bill, with the goal of having it heard and passed within the next two weeks.
As the legislative session continues, lawmakers will be working on a variety of issues to benefit the state of Nevada. Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of the session and the outcomes of the proposed bills.
