Gabby Herrera ranks as the 6th top athlete in Northern Nevada for 2024

In 2024, Gabby Herrera, a standout athlete on the Nevada Wolf Pack softball team, made a significant impact on the program with her impressive performance. As a transfer from Oregon in her second season at Nevada, Herrera played a key role in helping the team win 40 games, which was only the third time in program history that this has been achieved. Setting new single-season records for average, home runs, and RBIs, Herrera’s outstanding performance earned her the title of Mountain West’s Co-Player of the Year, sharing the honor with SDSU’s Mac Barbara. This recognition also marked the first time a Nevada player received this award since 2008.

Herrera’s success did not go unnoticed as she was named to the NFCA All-West Region Second Team and also earned a spot on the first-team All-MW selection. Throughout her two-year career at Nevada, she maintained an impressive batting average, hitting 23 home runs, driving in 98 runs, and scoring 61 runs in 106 games played during which the Wolf Pack boasted a 71-36 record.

Looking ahead to 2025, Herrera will continue to make an impact on the Wolf Pack softball team as she transitions into the role of director of operations under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Victoria Hayward. Herrera’s leadership and talent are sure to be valuable assets to the team as they strive for continued success in the upcoming season.
