Nevada Sports Net is wrapping up the year 2024 by counting down the top athletes of the year. Luke Hobson, a Reno High alum and member of the Lakeridge Swim Team, has been named the No. 1 athlete of 2024.
Hobson had an incredibly successful year, winning the NCAA championship in the 200 freestyle while swimming for Texas. He earned seven All-American honors, including three honorable mentions, and won five World Championship long-course medals, including one gold and four bronze. He also qualified for his first Olympics and won a bronze medal in the 200 free with a personal-best time. Additionally, he won a silver medal in the 4×200 freestyle relay at the Paris Games.
In a remarkable achievement, the 21-year-old set a world record in the 200 free at the Short Course World Championships not once but twice, winning three gold medals. He also set world records in the 4×100 free and 4×200 free relays for Team USA.
Looking ahead to 2025, Hobson will finish his college career at Texas, where he is a five-time national champion. He is expected to compete at the World Championship in Singapore in July/August.
Hobson’s historic year in 2024 solidified his status as one of the top athletes of the year and set the stage for continued success in 2025.
