The Economic Survey 2024-25 highlighted the importance of lifestyle choices and workplace culture in maintaining mental well-being and productivity in India. Presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the survey emphasized that mental well-being encompasses various factors such as mental-emotional, social, cognitive, and physical capabilities. It stated that mental well-being is not static and is influenced by factors like workplace culture, lifestyle choices, and family bonds.

The survey pointed out how lifestyle choices, work culture, family relationships, and eating habits are impacting the mental health of citizens in the country. It also highlighted the negative effects of excessive screen time and consumption of ultra-processed foods on mental health.

The survey emphasized that promoting a better workplace culture and making positive lifestyle choices are essential for improving mental well-being and productivity. It noted that individuals who refrain from consuming junk food, regularly exercise, limit social media usage, and maintain strong family bonds tend to have better mental well-being.

Moreover, the survey warned against hostile work cultures and excessive working hours, which can adversely affect mental well-being and ultimately hinder economic growth in the country. It suggested that immediate attention should be given to lifestyle choices, especially during childhood and youth, to ensure a healthier and more productive workforce in India.Overall, the survey underscored the importance of prioritizing mental well-being in order to achieve India’s economic ambitions.
