The 2025 session of the Nevada State Legislature is currently underway, and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is closely monitoring proposals that could increase the cost of doing business or make it easier to sue small business owners. NFIB is particularly concerned about the introduction of a “private right of action” which would allow employees to sue employers directly.
NFIB is urging its members to be vigilant and aware of the potential consequences of such legislation, pointing to California’s experience with the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) which turned into a cash cow for lawyers at the expense of workers. NFIB is emphasizing the importance of preventing frivolous lawsuits that can have a devastating impact on small businesses.
NFIB members are encouraged to stay informed and proactive on legal issues, utilizing the resources available through NFIB’s Small Business Legal Center webpage. By staying informed and engaged, small business owners can protect themselves from potential legal pitfalls and costly litigation.
