Republicans have now outnumbered Democrats in Nevada for the first time since 2007, with nonpartisan voters exceeding both parties. According to Republican strategist Jeremy Hughes, the party has gained an advantage in statewide voter registration. Elections expert Doug Goodman attributed the trend to the Republican Party’s efforts to reach out to nonpartisan and younger voters on key issues. Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald believes that more nonpartisan voters supported President Trump over Kamala Harris. The party plans to focus on converting nonpartisan Trump supporters into registered Republicans for the 2026 midterm elections.
Governor Joe Lombardo’s Campaign Spokesman Joe Weaver stated that the shift in voter registration has been expected, with Republicans outperforming Democrats on various issues at the national and state levels. The Nevada Democrats, represented by Hillary Barrett, Executive Director of the Nevada State Democratic Party, are focused on engaging nonpartisan voters and building diverse coalitions to win elections. Despite the Republican advantage of 99 voters reported by the Secretary of State’s office as of Tuesday, both parties have similar registered voter numbers. Democrats had previously held a substantial lead in voter registration, but Republicans have steadily made gains in recent years due to their focus on key issues that resonate with voters. The political landscape in Nevada is evolving, and both parties are adapting their strategies to appeal to the significant nonpartisan voting bloc.
