In this week’s Mountain West basketball rankings, Utah State remains on top with an impressive 18-2 record. Despite their strong performance, they have not been ranked in the top 25, which columnist Chris Murray believes is a lack of respect. New Mexico sits in second place with a 17-4 record and a strong defense ranking of 40th in KenPom. San Diego State is in third place with a young team that has shown inconsistency on offense. Colorado State and Boise State round out the top five.
UNLV, Nevada, San Jose State, Wyoming, Fresno State, and Air Force make up the bottom half of the rankings. UNLV has shown potential with wins over top teams but struggles with inconsistency. Nevada has had a tough season, losing to top teams by a large margin. San Jose State and Wyoming are both 3-6 in conference play while Fresno State sits at 1-8. Air Force is still winless in conference play.
Overall, the Mountain West teams are gearing up for an exciting finish to the season with key matchups ahead. Columnist Chris Murray provides insight and analysis on the Northern Nevada sports scene. For more updates, follow him on Twitter @ByChrisMurray or contact him at crmurray@sbgtv.com.
