Nevada Senators Criticize Trump’s Pardons for Jan. 6 Capitol Police Attackers.

Two Democratic U.S. Senators from Nevada, Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, along with 44 other senators, have introduced a resolution condemning the pardons of individuals convicted of assaulting Capitol Police officers. This resolution is in response to former President Trump’s decision to pardon over 1,500 individuals charged in connection with the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, including 169 who pled guilty to assaulting police officers. The resolution, titled “Condemning the pardons for individuals who were found guilty of assaulting Capitol Police Officers,” aims to disapprove of any pardons for such individuals. Senator Patty Murray plans to seek unanimous consent to pass the resolution.

Senator Cortez Masto criticized Trump’s pardons as an insult to law enforcement and an endorsement of political violence, while Senator Rosen called it unconscionable that Trump’s first actions after leaving office were to pardon criminals who attacked the Capitol. The resolution aims to garner bipartisan support in condemning the actions of those involved in the attack on the Capitol and rejecting Trump’s pardons. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has charged approximately 1,572 defendants in connection with the attack, with a significant number charged with assaulting law enforcement officers using various weapons.
